Sericulture comprises the breeding and feeding of silk worms and processing of silk yarn.
The indonesian word "Sutera" means silk and "Alam" is the earth.
BSA is the first and
longest project of B U M I.
It's target was the re-implementation of sericulture in Central Java, Indonesia.
Traditionally, a lot of people have yarn processing skills in several districts of
Central Java.
The objective of the project was the improvement of income in the rural area of
Banyumas, Central Java.
BSA involves 60 silk worm farmers with own land for mulberry plants
as a basic food for silk worms. The project is leaded by Djeimy Kusnaman who has made the financial
and sensitivity analysis of the project cycle.
Between 1997 and 2004 BSA was sponsored by Miserior.
For two years BSA's silk worm farmers complaint about declining silk worm production.
A further farm study should estimate the costs of silk process and develop farming strategies.
